Travel Vaccinations – Important Information for Patients
If you are planning to travel abroad, it is essential to arrange your travel vaccinations well in advance. We strongly advise booking a travel vaccine consultation at least 4 to 6 weeks before your departure.
Many travel vaccines require time to become fully effective. Receiving a vaccine just 1 to 2 weeks before travel may not provide adequate protection, putting you at increased risk of preventable illnesses while abroad.
Some vaccines also require a course of doses or boosters spaced over several weeks, and certain countries require proof of vaccination (e.g. Yellow Fever) well in advance of entry.
Why Early Vaccination Matters:
-
It allows your body time to build full immunity
-
Ensures maximum effectiveness of the vaccine
-
Allows enough time to complete multi-dose schedules, if required
-
Helps avoid last-minute delays or the need to visit private providers at higher cost
Please contact the practice as early as possible once your travel plans are confirmed, so we can advise you on which vaccines are recommended for your destination.
Travel Risk Assessment
We offer a full travel and advice immunisation service. If you are travelling abroad please complete our Travel Risk Assessment Form in plenty of time (We recommend 6-8 weeks) before your journey.
