Appointments

You can make an appointment the following ways:

Consultations are available Monday – Friday throughout the day, but individual GPs’ work patterns vary according to on-call commitments. Reception will advise you of availability as appropriate.

Routine Appointments

Patients are able to book ahead for an appointment with a GP of their choice up to four weeks in advance. Routine appointments are booked at 10 minute intervals, but if you have a complex issue or multiple problems, we can offer you a longer appointment – please ask the receptionist at the time of booking.

Emergency/Same Day Appointments

Any emergency appointment request for the same day will be triaged by the duty doctor before an appointment time is allocated.  Please call the surgery before 10:30 for a morning triage call or before 14:00 for an afternoon triage call. Please note, when the surgery returns your call, it is usually from a withheld number.  Due to the system we operate, it is essential that we are kept up-to-date with changes to your contact details. If you have recently changed your home or mobile telephone number, please complete our online Change of Personal Details form.

Double Appointments

If you feel that you need more time with the doctor/nurse to discuss several problems, please ask the receptionist to book you a double appointment.

Should more than one of your family need to see a doctor at the same time, please make this clear when booking your appointment. This will ensure that you have a separate appointment for each member of the family; thus allowing sufficient time for the doctor to assess each person’s medical needs.

Missed Appointments

It is extremely important that patients attend booked appointments. If you do need to cancel your appointment, please give as much notice as possible so that the appointment can be allocated to another patient. Our computer system holds a record of missed appointments. The doctors may remove patients from the list who continually miss booked appointments.

Waiting Times

All our clinicians endeavour to run to appointment times. However depending upon the complexity of the illness and any emergencies that can arise, they can run late. If you have been waiting longer than 30 minutes beyond your appointment time, please see reception. To assist the clinicians in running to time, please remember that one appointment is for one problem.

Continuity of Care

Patients have the right to express their preference of practitioner but cannot be guaranteed that this person will be available within 24 hours. Patients should be aware that all practitioners have access to their medical records and, therefore, can provide continuity of care.

Type of Appointments Available

A Telephone Consultation with the GP, if:

  • You have a simple query about your condition or symptoms
  • You want to discuss your on-going medication or care

When booking a telephone consultation, please be prepared to tell the receptionist about your condition. The receptionists are not ‘being nosey’, they ask this information to prioritise the most urgent cases and arrange the most appropriate course of action. Any calls after this time will be put on the afternoon telephone consultation list, or if this list is full, it will be moved to the next day.

A Pre-Booked Appointment to see the GP at the Surgery, if:

  • You have an on-going or non-urgent medical problem and you want to plan ahead to see the GP of your choice.

Routine appointments are booked at 10 minute intervals, but if you have a complex issue or multiple problems, we can offer you a longer appointment.

A Same-Day Appointment to see the GP at the Surgery, if:

  • You have a medical problem that needs to be resolved immediately

Any emergency appointment request for the same day will be telephone triaged by the duty doctor before an appointment time is allocated. Please call the surgery before 10:30 on 024 7645 7497 if you require a same day appointment.

Practice Nurse Appointments

Practice nurses have experience in managing minor illnesses and injuries, but are also trained to provide a range of nursing care including; dressings, contraception, chronic disease management, cervical smears, immunisations and vaccinations. Practice nurses also offer advice on preventing illness through weight reduction, smoking cessation and other lifestyle changes.

Please select the best option for you at the time, bearing in mind that accepting a telephone consultation will enable the GP to see people with more complicated and on-going problems. If you are unsure which option is best for you, ask the reception staff for help.
